Promotion of Circular Economy

Since the establishment of Yunlin Mailiao Industrial Park in 1999, Formosa Plastics Group has promoted energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection with the concept of ecological industrial park and circular economy. After the completion of mass production of the fourth phase of the Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex in 2006, a special unit for promoting energy conservation and carbon reduction was established to enhance energy efficiency. The Chairman has personally acted as the convener to preside over monthly meetings on energy conservation and carbon reduction. Also, the annual goals of reducing energy consumption by 3% and water consumption by 5% have been set. FPG has since strived for energy conservation, emission reduction, energy resource integration, and zero waste to mitigate the impact on the environment, fulfill corporate social responsibility, achieve sustainable business development, and eventually coexist and prosper with the local communities. Over the years, the Sixth Naphtha Cracker Complex has worked hard to recycle and reuse water. The water recycling rate of the whole district, not including the amount of recirculated cooling water, was 91.5%, far better than that of related industries in Taiwan (50%) and also meant that every drop of water was used 12.7 times.
