"Rainbow Project" and "Sunshine Project" yield remarkable results

Wang Jhan-Yang Foundation's "Rainbow Project" and Wang Jhan-Yang Charitable Trust Fund's "Sunshine Project" provided mental health education, psychological counselling, and vocational training courses to help inmates overcome their drug addiction psychologically and physically. The inmates were also encouraged to learn a new skill and obtain professional certificates in order to increase their employability. The vocational training courses currently include agricultural and gardening skills training, funeral assistant skills, bicycle maintenance skills, computer hardware technician skills, nail art, foot massage, etc. At the same time, a "Family Day" is held to repair the participating inmates' family relations. The inmates can then show their learning results and let their families see their changes. Through this event, the inmates thank their families for their selfless support. In both projects, case managers are assigned for project implementation. After the inmates are released from prison, the case managers will follow up and provide counselling services for the inmates to help them reintegrate into their families and society and reduce recidivism.

As of August 2018, a total of 2,199 participants completed the training of the "Rainbow Project" and "Sunshine Project," of which 716 trainees obtained vocational certificates during the training period and more than 100 million dollars was invested. At present, 1,224 people have been released from prison. Within two years, the recidivism rate for drug offenders has dropped from 60% to 80% to about 10%, demonstrating that the implementation has been very effective.
