Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) not only focuses on plastic recycling and waste prevention and control, actively uses renewable energy and looks into CCU technologies, but also examines items in the environment that will be helpful for energy conservation and carbon emissions reduction, starting with daily management and the little things to achieve environmental sustainability.
LED energy-efficient lights
The replacement of lights in administrative and living areas of factories in Taiwan is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 2.35 million kWh and CO2 emissions by 1.18 million kg (according to the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, 2020 Electricity Carbon Emission Factor: Each kWh saved reduces carbon emissions by 0.502 kg). Overall operations are expected to be completed before the end of 2022.

Promotion of energy-efficient company cars
In order to conserve energy, reduce carbon emissions and fulfill corporate social responsibility, we implement green transport policy in consideration of energy-efficient vehicles reducing carbon emissions by 20% and above compared with fuel vehicles.
Energy-efficient models (hybrid, electric) are given priority when purchasing small passenger vehicles and trucks, and each vehicle will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 40-50 g/km.
We replaced fuel vehicles that are 11 years or older with the goal for 30% of SUVs and sedans to be energy-efficient models by the end of 2022. This is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 15.15 tons.
Starting in 2023, we will give priority to electric vehicles when renting vehicles.

FPG is the first major corporation in Taiwan to directly subsidize the purchase (replacement) of electric scooters by employees, and worked with a domestic electric scooter manufacturers to jointly realize carbon reduction
Becoming the first major corporation in Taiwan to provide subsidies for the purchase (replacement) of electric scooters by employees
According to statistics of the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan's CO2 emissions was approximately 2.5743 million tons in 2020, in which industry accounted for the highest percentage of emissions at 48.74%, followed by transportation at 14.17%. The Company is actively promoting ESG to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. We have declared the goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and also encourage employees to prioritize electric scooters, which have lower carbon emissions, when replacing their scooters, in order to reduce carbon emissions from transportation. The subsidies aim to make FPG employees more willing to purchase electric scooters, and thereby eliminate Phase 1-4 fuel scooters that have a relatively large impact on the environment.
Contents of subsidies
A subsidy of NT$10,000 is provided for the purchase of a new electric scooter, or NT$16,000 if the employee trades in his/her old scooter. Formal employees who have been with the company for 1 full year may apply for this subsidy without any limitations on the brand. Using the approximately 45,000 employees in Taiwan for estimation, then the total amount of subsidies will be between NT$450 million and NT$720 million.

A Happy Enterprise that Jointly Reduces Carbon Emissions
Based on the carbon emission of 0.055 kg/km for ICE motorcycles and 0.0265 kg/km for electric scooters, an average daily commute of 20km per person in Taiwan, and approximately 45,000 employees in Taiwan, the policy can reduce 25.65 tons of carbon emissions per day and 9,362 tons of carbon emissions per year.
Reducing plastic from the source, smart detergent refill stations
Energy conservation and carbon reduction is a clear development goal of Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp., and we thus began to set up smart detergent refill stations in 2021. The detergent automatic refill model appeared in Europe in recent years. Due to Taiwan's small area and dense population, it needs to reduce waste and reuse resources even more. Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. will take the first step to making a change starting from detergent. In the future, we will extend refill stations to other cleaners to contribute to the environment.
