Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation Xingang Plant Year-end Event to Care for Underprivileged Groups

2022 / 01 / 18

Chiayi Administration Department has spared no effort in charity over the years to uphold the founder's kindheartedness, and continues to actively care for underprivileged people, elderly people living alone, and social welfare institutions before Chinese New Year. This year it once again visited Chiayi Compassion House and Chiayi One Heart Orphanage, and supported the fundraiser of Huashan Social Welfare Foundation for the year-end banquet under the theme "Love Elderly People, Love Gatherings." We hope that the donations of employees at the Xingang Plant and Chiayi Plant will help even more people in need in Chiayi County and City, realizing the concept that factory and residents are family.

Director Hsu-Hui Tsai of Chiayi Administration Department, Xingang Township Mayor Mao-Sheng Lin, Section Chief Yu-Chieh Lin of the township office, chairpersons Ying-Chi Lin, Chun-Ping Huang, Wen-Hsiung Yu, Tung-Lin Ho, and Chung-Hsin Kuan of the labor union of each company, and members of the good neighborliness team of the Administration Department, along with Station Chief Tsai-Tung Wang of Huashan Social Welfare Foundation, visited elderly people living alone in nearby villages of the two plants. The total of NT$294,050 donated by employees of the two plans was used to pay for the year-end banquet and supplies, so elderly people can get through Chinese New Year without any worries. It took care of elderly people in villages by organizing their home environment, measuring their blood pressure, and putting up spring couplets for the holidays. The volunteer visit was co-organized the Huashan Social Welfare Foundation and Xingang Township Office Social Welfare Section, and aims to provide services to elderly people, visiting the homes of elderly people who are disabled, do not have anyone to depend on, or have dementia. This is the 18th year that the foundation has prepared food for year-end banquets during Chinese New Year, and the good deeds of the foundation and corporate volunteers have gained wide recognition from all sectors.

Director Hsu-Hui Tsai of Chiayi Administration Department and Chairperson I-Jing Lin of the labor union of Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation's Xingang Plant visited Chiayi Compassion House and Chiayi One Heart Orphanage for the Disabled on January 24, and donated NT$249,400, as well as detergent and dishwashing liquid, taking action to show care and support for underprivileged groups.

Chiayi Compassion House is an elderly care service institution for elderly people from lower-middle-income families, and elderly people with chronic illness, have poor mobility, or cannot take care of themselves in life in Chiayi County/City. It hopes that persons with disabilities will be able to create new value and gain hope in the last stage of their lives through long-term care. On the day of the visit, elderly people living in the institution welcomed the volunteer team. Director Tsai could not speak with each and everyone of them to maintain social distancing, but still waved his hands enthusiastically, and the elderly people felt the warmth. Several nimble old men were watering the garden chrysanthemum in the garden in the courtyard. As the sun shined on the green garden chrysanthemum, it is not hard to imagine that there will be many stories of them growing vegetables at the dinner table on Chinese New Year eve this year.

Chiayi County One Heart Orphanage for the Disabled is dedicated to serving persons with disabilities. It was established to help families with financial difficulties or do not have time to take care of disabled family members due to their work. The institution currently has 60 residents who receive proper education, intervention, and rehabilitation provided by the institution, and they learn how to take care of themselves in group life. On the day of the visit, the residents excitedly and loudly greeted the volunteer team, and some enthusiastically shook hands and embraced us, creating a warm atmosphere.

The series of activities to care for the underprivileged at the end of the year was successfully completed, thanks to the generosity of employees at the Xingang Plant and Chiayi Plant, who showed their love to care those in need. In the future, Chiayi Administration Department will continue to organize related activities, and hopes that employees will continue to show their support by contributing to Taiwan.
