Taiwan is also known as Formosa, in which 70% of the area is mountains and hills, which have form many natural rivers. Of the 219 rivers, Zhuoshui River is the longest at 186 km long.

After the establishment of Yunlin Offshore Industrial Park was approved in Taiwan in June 1991, economic benefits significantly increased and indirectly led to the decision to construct Jiji Weir, which cost approximately NT$23.8 billion and is the largest weir in Taiwan. This truly made life easier for hardworking farmers that needed irrigation water downstream.

Yunlin Offshore Industrial Park also implemented the policy of water conservation, and every drop of water is used 7.3 times, saving 9,611 tons of water every year, contributing to the conservation of water resources in Taiwan.
